Entry Requirements

To be eligible for admission, you must either:

  • be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree or combined degree program at the University of Sydney and have approval for concurrent enrolment from the Deans of the Faculties and have completed one year fulltime (or equivalent part time) study; or
  • be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree or combined degree program at another recognised tertiary institution and have completed one year fulltime (or equivalent part time) study; or
  • have been awarded, or be eligible for the award of, an undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution.

The Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications) honours year is both a preparation for postgraduate study and a capstone to an undergraduate degree.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission to honours, students need to have results of an average of 70% or above in eight senior units of study (48 credit points) in the subject in they wish to undertake honours. Some departments and programs have additional prerequisites, including advanced senior units of study designed to prepare students for the challenges of fourth year study.

Only currently enrolled Bachelor of Visual Arts students (enrolled under pre-2018 course resolutions) at the University of Sydney who would like to commence honours immediately following the pass degree can do so under current resolutions and mediums offered.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for admission to the honours year you should have completed the requirements of the pass degree of the Bachelor of Visual Arts, or equivalent degree from a recognised institution, with a weighted average mark across intermediate and senior units of at least 65%.

Applicants are also selected on the basis of their portfolio and project proposal. Admission is competitive and not all eligible applicants may be offered candidature.

Candidature in the honours year cannot be suspended nor deferred.

The Bachelor of Visual Arts/Bachelor of Advanced Studies is a combined degree offered by Sydney College of the Arts (SCA), Sydney's premier training ground for contemporary visual artists for more than 40 years.

Entry Requirements

Admission to this course is on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. UAC applicants – submit your portfolio electronically to SCA by Tuesday 8 January 2019.
  2. Direct applicants – upload your portfolio as part of your online application to the University by the application deadline.

You will need to include a short statement of between 200 and 250 words addressing one of the more developed projects in your portfolio. Find out more about portfolio requirements. Late submissions will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants without an ATAR from the NSW Higher School Certificate may be granted admission on the basis of:

  • A recognised secondary school level qualification (including overseas qualifications)
  • or having successfully undertaken tertiary studies in music at or above Diploma level to the equivalent of at least one year of study
  • or in a special admission category such as mature age entry

Entry Requirements

To gain entry, applicants will need:

  3. Register an audition if applying in performance; or submit a portfolio and schedule an interview if applying in Composition or Musicology.

The Board of Studies Teaching and Educational Standards NSW (BOSTES) requires the following prerequisites for admission to the Bachelor of Music (Music Education) program:

  • School leavers into undergraduate initial teacher education degrees is three HSC Band 5 results including one in English.

  • Other applicants may be admitted through an approved comparable measure or admission pathway as approved by the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards NSW.

  • Special admission pathways are open for domestic mature aged applicants who do not possess a school leaving qualification, educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

  • Applicants are ranked by merit and offers for available places are issued according to the ranking.
