Developed in collaboration with major employers in the biosecurity industry, this course trains you on the principles, practices, and procedures of diagnosing disease in animals and equips you with the skills and knowledge necessary to further your career in animal health.

During this five-day course, you will explore topics such as antibody and nucleic acid-based procedures and learn how to test infected animals for exotic diseases, the identification of resistant animals for endemic diseases and the detection of pathogens in the environment.

Upon completion you will receive a certificate of completion and access to further professional development opportunities within La Trobe's comprehensive range of short courses in our animal health suite.

What you will learn

Topics covered will include:

  • The course will focus on the principles, practices, and procedures of diagnostic tests.
  • The syllabus will include both antibody and nucleic acid-based procedures and the tests will cover the detection of infected animals for exotic diseases, the identification of resistant animals for endemic diseases and the detection of pathogens in the environment.
