Master of Education (Early Childhood Teaching)

The Master of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) course will enable you to develop in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge and understandings of current research, theory and practice that will inform effective teaching and learning with young children and their families in early years programs and services.

The staff involved in teaching the units in this study area are early childhood experts who are all recognised in their specific fields. They are involved in specialist teaching, research, and professional and community engagement activities, with strong links to the teaching profession and early childhood sector.

You may study the course full time or part time. You can study on campus, online or select a blended approach to suit you, although some units are offered online and externally only. QUT provides a variety of online learning environments to enable you to participate fully, receive expert guidance and support, and be in regular contact with expert teaching staff.

The Early Childhood Teaching study area includes professional experience with children in an early childhood education and care service. The unit will enable you to draw upon your professional knowledge and experience in planning, implementing and evaluating learning experiences for and with young children, their families and communities.

Qualified teachers are able, on completion, to become early childhood specialists, both in schools and as leaders in early childhood education and care services, including a range of prior-to-school settings.

This study area is recognised by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority as a specialist early childhood qualification.

You can exit the course with a Graduate Certificate in Education (Early Childhood) following completion of four specialist early childhood units and a Graduate Certificate in Education with completion of any four masters units.
