  • Your research will cover the latest developments within Commercial Law practice, and expand your awareness of current developments affecting the legal sector.
  • The flexible course structure may give you the opportunity to select either a second major or an additional four courses from other Master of Laws majors, including Comparative Law, International Law, Public Law and Sustainable Development Law.
  • A significant component of your degree will be research-based. You will become proficient in legal research, advanced legal writing and critical thinking through a series of guided research projects.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements
  • Completed an Australian Bachelor of Laws degree; a Bachelor of Laws (Honours); a Juris Doctor; or an international equivalent. Applicants who do not hold a law degree but have an equivalent qualification approved by a legal profession admissions board are also eligible to apply for entry.
English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

  • The Master of Laws allows you to tailor your study across 22 specialist courses which enhance careers in legal practice, public policy, government, law reform, international organisations, social services, international business, environmental governance and local government.
  • The Master of Laws is ideal if you wish to gain the research skills required to gain entry into higher level research degrees, such as the PhD.

To complete this degree students must complete 12 units. Most courses (similar to 'subjects') are valued at 1 unit. To study full-time you would usually complete 4 units per semester.
