About this course

In the Undergraduate Certificate in Gaming and Virtual Reality, led by game developers from Giant Margarita and researchers from HIT Lab, you will focus on game design, development and exploration of virtual worlds and mixed reality. Your learning experience includes using Unity 3D, a powerful tool commonly used to develop games and interactive applications such as VR and AR.

During your studies you will use gaming equipment, including Oculus Quest (VR headset) and Microsoft HoloLens (AR headset) technology, engaging with your peers either online or in person to support each other and use exciting technologies collaboratively. You can choose to do this certificate fully online or use our modern laboratory facilities on the Launceston or Hobart campuses. Choosing face-to-face teaching will provide you with an engaging hands-on experience and the opportunity to gain immediate feedback from teaching staff.

You will develop in-demand technical skills such as C# programming, games design and programming, and creation of WebGL applications. As well as the use of 3D interaction design, you will implement games and interactive software using industry standard technologies, tools (Unity 3D and Blender) and languages (C# and HLSL ).

Launch your career in the multibillion-dollar industries of electronic games and interactive environments by acquiring fundamental skills that enable the development of computer games, virtual reality applications and other forms of interactive software applications.

This Certificate is a pathway into the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (BICT) majoring in Games and Creative Technology, with all four units used as credit for core or elective units. You can transition into any major within the BICT to take your studies to the next level.
