The multi-disciplinary field of Health Informatics is the application of information technology to healthcare delivery. By its very nature, health informatics is challenging and complex. Yet it is this complexity that makes it such an intriguing, exciting and rewarding field in which to be involved.
Entry Requirements

The course is suitable for health professionals who wish to enhance their understanding and ability to work effectively with information and communication technologies. The course is also designed for graduates who wish to pursue a career as a health informatics specialist.

To be eligible for an offer, an applicant must have:

  • Completed a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Two years previous experience working in a health care setting (this includes but is not limited to a hospital, a health clinic, aged care setting, primary health care, department of community services).
  • A Curriculum Vitae detailing minimum two years work experience in the required area of work.

This course is offered part-time only, over one year, or two semesters. The maximum time for completion is three years. With the exception of Child and Family Health Nursing all specialisations are offered completely online.
Entry Requirements

To be eligible for an offer an applicant:

  • Must have practiced as a Registered Nurse for at least six (6) months since graduation from a university program, prior to start of the course.
  • Must provide evidence of AHPRA registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with no restrictions or conditions. Midwives who do not have a nursing qualification identified in their Curriculum, are not eligible to apply.
  • Must provide a personal statement in eApplication, or a CV or Resume which states the area in which the applicant works as an RN and for the length of time. Applicants must be working in the area of the specialty for which they have applied. N.B. Applicants for Child and Family Health are not required to be working in the area of this specialty in order to apply.

Note: The Child and Family Health specialisation is placement based and is only available for nurses in certain geographical areas.

Safety in Practice Requirements

This course includes compulsory work placements. All students must meet the course's Safety in Practice Requirements before their first placement. The safety in practice requirements are completed separately to the course admission application.

  • Evidence of current AHPRA registration under the General Registration Type for the profession of Pharmacist, without conditions or notations is required, or equivalent evidence of registration in another country.
  • Appropriate post-registration work experience of at least 1 year will also be normally considered as a requirement for acceptance into this program.

  • Employment details or a personal statement in eApplication, or a CV or Resume which indicates appropriate post-registration work experience of at least 1 year.
