The Certificate II in Building and Construction Pre-apprenticeship, carpentry stream, is for both school leavers and mature-age students who wish to build their practical experience and knowledge to ensure their employment opportunities as an apprentice carpenter.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview.
These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
To enter a building site in Australia it is a requirement to hold a current General Induction card, also known as a 'White Card' (formerly Blue Card). The card is valid for use on all construction sites in Australia..
This qualification provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations.
Entry Requirements
Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
There are no other entry requirements for this course.
You will learn the skills and knowledge to work in the building and construction industry with particular focus on low rise buildings and light steel structures. The course includes learning about the BCA, codes and standards, estimating and site supervision.

To be successful in this course and to meet the required outcomes you will need to have access to a workplace that services building and project management types of work.

Undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital skills test (prior to entry) to ensure your Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills match the demands of the course (level 3).
