DOMESTIC APPLICANTS

Domestic applicants who recently completed secondary education (in the past two years)

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. This is a new course for 2021. We anticipate that the lowest ATAR that will receive an offer for this course in 2021 will be 80.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

Bachelor of Arts pathway

Students who do not receive an offer for the Bachelor of Laws are encouraged to enrol in the UTAS Bachelor of Arts or other Bachelor's degree with an elective component such as the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Science and complete 50 credit points including:

  • 25 credit points of Introductory (100-level) Law units and
  • 25 credit points of other Introductory (100-level) units.

Students who pass all their units will be offered a place in the Bachelor of Laws and will be eligible for credit for completed units. We recommend student complete Law Core units as their pathway to enable completion of the course within the normal timeframes.

Other students with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have either:

  • Completed a course at Bachelor level or higher at any Australian higher education provider (or an equivalent overseas qualification) or;
  • partially completed an undergraduate course at Bachelor level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least eight units of study (equivalent to 100 UTAS credit points) with a minimum grade point average of 4.0 on a seven-point scale.

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

This course does not admit students on the basis of VET / TAFE study.

Justice Studies Honours will equip you to make a real contribution to contemporary global challenges by giving you an awareness of key aspects of social justice, human rights, international development and peace studies.
Entry Requirements

Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Justice Studies with Honours:

  • must have qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Justice Studies, or another approved Bachelor degree, in this University or another approved tertiary institution;
  • if a candidate from another approved tertiary institution, must have qualified for admission to a fourth year honours course in the proposed program of study or a cognate program;
  • are required by the College as having reached, in a Bachelor of Justice Studies, or another approved Bachelor degree, in this University or another approved tertiary institution, a standard of proficiency, a weighted average of 70% of higher, in the 200 and 300 level units forming a major in the proposed Honours discipline of study
  • if undertaking a combined honours program, should qualify for entry in both programs to be studied;

Exemptions regarding entry requirements may be made at the discretion of the Head of School.

Domestic Applicants who have recently completed secondary education

Applicants are ranked by ATAR and offers made based on the number of places available. In 2020, the lowest ATAR to receive an offer into this course was 51.20. The lowest ATAR to receive an offer may change from year to year based on the number of applications we receive.

Applicants who have recently completed senior secondary studies but have not received an ATAR may still be eligible for admission. We will consider your individual subject results on a case-by-case basis when we assess your application.

Domestic applicants with higher education study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have:

  • Partially completed an undergraduate course at Diploma level or higher (or equivalent). Applicants must have completed at least two units of study (equivalent to 25 UTAS credit points). If an applicant has failed any units the application may be subject to further review before an offer is made; or
  • Completed the UTAS University Preparation Program (or an equivalent qualification offered by an Australian University).

Domestic applicants with VET / TAFE study

To be eligible for an offer, applicants must have completed a Certificate IV (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Domestic applicants with work and life experience

Applicants without senior secondary, tertiary or VET / TAFE study can complete a personal competency statement.
