Phayon-Thonghau Eiamlapa Scholarship

About this scholarship

Established in 2016 by Rapin Quinn (née Eiamlapa) for the purpose of assisting students or visiting fellows who are interested in Theravada Buddhism, its role and current practice in Thailand.

Eligibility

This scholarship is open to applicants who meet all of the following criteria:

• Citizenship: all
• Target group: applicants whose interest is in the philosophy of Theravada Buddhism, its role and current practice that impacts on Thai society

Required documentation

The following documents must be submitted with the application:

• A written statement of at least 500 words outlining:
  • the conceptual and methodological framework of the study;
  • how the research’s key findings contribute to addressing social problems in a manner that brings social cohesion to Thai society as a whole;
  • how the research project/study could enhance the mutual understanding between Australia and Thailand; and
  • how the Scholarship is to be used to support the research project/study.
• Resumé (academics and/or visiting fellows must include examples of evidence-based merit (e.g. publications) with their resumé)

Selection criteria

Applications are assessed based on the strength of the following criteria:

• Written statement
• Academic merit
• Resumé/CV

Preference will be given to applicants whose research proposal is related to the work of the ACU Faculty of Theology and Philosophy as the first priority, and other ACU faculties as the second. If a suitable ACU recipient is not found, the Scholarship will then be offered to an eligible applicant from another institution.

Selection process

Recipients will be selected by ACU’s Interreligious Dialogue Network.

Ongoing requirements

The successful applicant is required to:

• present key research findings at an ACU forum (e.g. The Faculty Seminar Series); and
• acknowledge the Scholarship contribution made through the ACU Foundation.
