Overview
Each year the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences ("the College") may offer an award known as the Bernard Wheelahan Latin American Travel Grant with the aim of assisting a student with costs associated with travel to and within Latin America for the purposes of undertaking an exchange or internship.
Funding for this award has been provided by a bequest to the Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) through the generosity of Pacific-Hydro Pty Ltd.
Mr Bernard Wheelahan chaired the Council on Australia-Latin America Relations from its inception in 2001 until 2010. He has had extensive business experience in Latin America and has been a major force in strengthening ties between Australia and the region.

Benefits
The value of the award is $2,500. The award is payable in one instalment on acceptance of the offer to enable the recipient to travel at the beginning of semester, unless otherwise stated in the letter of offer.
How to apply
Invitations to apply will be sent to CASS students who have been successful in being awarded an Exchange Scholarship in Latin America. The application is submitted in the form of a letter outlining current Latin American issues in their field of study.
Selection
Selection is made on the basis of application. The committee will consider who has displayed, in their application, the highest level of understanding of Latin American issues in their field of study. Other factors such as the student's potential may also be taken into account.
