About this course

This qualification gives you the skills and knowledge to perform a variety of activities independently in a fitness setting. You will gain experience within a range of exercise situations focusing on programming, exercise prescription and personal training.

Work may be undertaken in locations such as gyms, fitness facilities, pools, community facilities and in outdoor environments. Completing the Certificate IV in Fitness will make you eligible to register with Fitness Australia as a Personal Trainer.

Entry requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold a current first aid and CPR certificate and have been recognised as competent through a recognised training program or recognition process against the following units of competency:

SISFFIT001 Provide health screening and fitness orientation
SISFFIT002 Recognise and apply exercise considerations for specific populations
SISFFIT003 Instruct fitness programs
SISFFIT004 Incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming
SISFFIT005 Provide healthy eating information
SISFFIT006 Conduct fitness appraisals
SISFFIT014 Instruct exercise to older clients
SISXCCS001 Provide quality service

By enrolling, CIT assumes you have checked and met these entry requirements. CIT staff will confirm either before or within the first few weeks of classes.

You must:
- have a Certificate III in Fitness and hold current Fitness Australia Instructor Registration
And
- have current First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate

Before undertaking any practical work experience, you will be required to undertake a 'Working with Vulnerable People Check'.

To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
