Be equipped to use a marine VHF radio

In this course students will learn the necessary skills to use marine VHF radio to transmit and receive information.

Topics covered include:

  • Transmit and receive information by marine radio including using very high frequency and high frequency radio
  • Regulations relating to marine radio use
  • Maintenance and fault-finding procedures on radio equipment and power supplies
  • How to operate emergency position indicating beacons (EPIRBs) and search and rescue radar transponders (SARTs)
  • How to use AIS man overboard (AIS-MOB) devices and digital selective calling MOB (DSC-MOB) devices
