Successful completion of one of the following:

• a recognised bachelor degree or a graduate diploma or masters degree in a related area; or
• a recognised bachelor degree plus an honours degree or a graduate diploma or masters degree in a non-related area.

Related areas include: public health, health science, primary health care, medicine, social science or health promotion.

Note: Bachelor of Nursing is not an approved degree for this course. Applicants with a degree in this field are encouraged to apply for either the Graduate Diploma of Health Research or Public Health. Applicants with extensive experience in rural and remote practice may be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants who have completed Charles Darwin University's Graduate Certificate of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control (UIDPC1) or Graduate Certificate of Epidemiology (UEPID1) are also eligible for entry.

To achieve the minimum level of academic proficiency to enrol in a PhD, applicants must have completed:

A. at least one semester FTE of relevant research activity at AQF Level 8 and achieved a GPA equivalent to a Distinction;

B. at least one semester FTE of relevant research activity at AQF Level 9 or above; or

C. equivalent levels of research activity as approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies.

You must also plan to conduct research that is compatible with the research priorities and resources of this University. When you apply, you must submit a research proposal, comprising 500 to 1000 words.

The research priorities of this University tend to revolve around:

• tropical, regional, and remote health - including nursing, midwifery, and allied health;
• environmental studies;
• energy, resources, and engineering;
• social and public policy in Northern Australia and the region;
• community resilience;
• cybersecurity and IT;
• business and law; and
• education.

To be eligible for the Tertiary Enabling Program (TEP):

• you must be 17 or over by the census date of the relevant semester.
• you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen (residing in Australia), permanent resident or Humanitarian Visa holder.

Successful completion of a recognised bachelor degree or equivalent international qualification.

Please note that credit will not be permitted for any units completed as part of the recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent international qualification) used as the basis of admission.

Consideration will be given to applicants who have a diploma level qualification or above and at least five years relevant professional experience.

Applicants must provide further documentation detailing their employment experience (i.e. work experience certificate from an employer/s) and outlining their roles and achievements in the form of a curriculum vitae (CV) and a statement of purpose. The statement of purpose should address why you would like to be admitted into the course, career goals and aspirations and benefits the course will provide you.
