About this course

The dual Diploma of Mental Health CHC53315 and Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs CHC53215 will give you the skills required for you to work within the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs industry. After successfully completing the course you may choose to find employment as a mental health practitioner, social welfare worker, or a drug and alcohol clinician. Successful completion of the dual diploma will give you credit for eight units of the Bachelor of Community Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs.

To complement the theory you will learn online, you will be required to complete a total of 400 hours of industry placement over the course of your studies. If you have already completed relevant work placement while studying the the Certificate IV in Mental Health or the Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or are already working in the industry, you may be eligible for some credit hours or to complete your placement assessment in your workplace.

To complete this qualification you will be required to undertake the following unit of competency HLTAID003 Provide First Aid. This unit is not available online, however Chisholm does offer the unit on campus. Please send a copy of your transcript if you have already successfully completed this unit previously.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be 18 years or over, Mature age entry with Year 12 (VCE) or equivalent qualification, Relevant industry experience preferred, Telephone interview prior to entry into the course, Working with Children Check (volunteer) and police checks are a compulsory requirement for practical placement.
