My name is Leah Bushell. I am a qualified teacher and have been teaching for 8 years. I also run a business called motivation IN me in which I teach strategies for every day coping and life management. All of my programs are based around well-being and so I have been looking for a course of study that will compliment this. I believe young people require skills and strategies to navigate their world and don't believe the current Australian Curriculum in schools has the scope or time-frame needed to engage in these. This is why I am passionate about bringing these skills into schools.
Teaching was not my original dream growing up but I very quickly realised it was my passion. Our younger generations are being moulded and shaped constantly to become world changers and contributors and I love being a part of that process.
I am hoping that this Masters will allow me to create long-lasting programs and further my understanding of the human mind and all of its possibilities.
My long term goal is to prove to students and teachers that you do not have to fit into the "box" of the school system to be great. Often students are made to fit the box instead of recreating the box to fit them. We have all seen the jpeg of the text where all of the animals are required to climb the tree to pass the test. Despite our best efforts as teachers sometimes our hands are tied by the policies and bureaucrats above us. I wish more schools were able to get on board with the approach to wellness and maybe we won't hear as much complaining that "kids don't know how easy they have it". They are living in a whole new world and it is about time the world changed to fit them not the other way around.
