About this course

Today, mathematics is used in most fields, including technology, natural science, engineering, medicine, finance and the social sciences, such as sociology and psychology. This course is designed to provide you with skills in mathematics, engineering and computing, and to teach you how to apply these skills to problems arising in business, industry and government. The course includes units in advanced calculus and linear algebra that provide foundational knowledge, as well as units in modelling and optimisation, network design and analysis, logistics, supply chain networks, transportation networks, computational mathematics, statistics and probability. Industry-based units and a work experience program will enable you to experience real applications. As a graduate of this course, you will be well equipped with the tools to address the key problems that need to be solved to improve the efficiency and productivity of business and industry. Curtin has strong links with industry and the business world through the Statistics Group and the Western Australian Centre of Excellence in Industrial Optimisation. As a result of this close interaction, the units offered are designed to develop the practical skills needed to address real-world problems. A work experience program runs from second year onwards, exposing students to real applications of their mathematical studies, and introducing them to potential employers.
