About this course

Outline Outline

This minor provides students with insight and training into how we understand the earth as an environment, with a focus on methods of scientific analysis. The units collectively cover both the marine and terrestrial realms, and includes analysis of data collected in person and from space, via observation, GIS and satellites. Unit alternates allow students to follow their interests, and enables full compatibility with other study packages. The minor is accessible to all students in the university, but it is anticipated that it will be most popular with those who have a professional or personal interest in earth or environmental sciences.

What you'll learn
  • have demonstrated some knowledge and understanding in Earth Environments that is typically at a level supported by textbooks, but not necessarily at the forefront of the field, GC1
  • can apply their knowledge and understanding in a manner that indicates a professional approach to the field and have developing competencies typically demonstrated through devising and sustaining arguments (to both specialist and non-specialist audiences) and solving straightforward problems within the field of Earth Evironments, including using digital technologies, GC2, GC3
  • can gather and interpret relevant data within Earth Environments to inform judgements that include some reflection on relevant social, scientific, or ethical issues related to Earth Environments, GC4, GC5
  • demonstrate a developing standard of professional behaviour, including effective time management, both independently and as a team member, GC6
