Simply I am Mohana Matangulu who has recently started the journey as an international student at the Curtin University with the hope to make my dream come true infront of those innocent and hopeful my farmers and family back in my country. I belong to a farmer family from an agricultural country, Nepal where lots of heads struggle for existence due to lack of enough foods. This deficiency is not because of lack of owned lands. We farmers have our own lands but these lands are unarable leaving us hungry most of the year and tears rolling down the cheeks. The main reason found is lack of water in these lands though country experiences average rainfall of 1200mm per annum. This state of availability of rainfall enough for irrigation and having rainfall in our lands really haunt me every nights. I even sometimes think that god is unfair because there is no fault of our farmers to go through hell in their own land. Then I decided to find out the reasons for aridness in our lands and make them bloom in recent future and thenafter I chose to study Dryland Agricultural Systems and went through search for universities offering these courses and I came across three options; Kenya, USA and Australia. USA was offering expensive with countable terrorist attacks and I chose Australia over Kenya because Curtin University is more appropriate for learning.
Its only been 3 weeks that I started my course at Curtin. In these few days at Curtin, I felt warm hearted lecturers with helping hand whenever I need and with diverse knowledge as pool for me to learn. These days I am learning about soil quality analysis, amendaments for soil, livestocks, ways of research actions along with statistical analysis. My doubts have been clear by now from the University. University not only is providing knowledge to my fields, they are also helping to cope with merging technological advancements for research actions and learning actions. Now I have faith on the University that I would be able to grab the opportunity and be able to get solutions for dryness in my lands. By the end of the course, I would be able to analyze the problems behind and solutions for them which I would be able to take back to my country and solve those problems and wipe out all those tears and fill emptiness of stomach.
I would go back to my place as I somewhat sorted out some solutions for irrigation and ways of increasing water holding capacity of soil which is deficit in our soil. Now I am working on which is the best way the soil type we have in my places. With the complete solutions, I want to give them back those smiles in their faces by solving the problems and even letting them capable of solving them on their own in near future so that they do not need to rely on others anymore.
