About this course

This is a WorkSafe approved course for workplace Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs (Dep HSRs). This course is for HSRs, Dep HSRs and others that have completed the HSR Initial OHS training course. The broad purpose is to refresh HSR knowledge, skills and confidence. The HSR refresher OHS training course supports; the continued performance of their functions, exercise of their powers for representing members of their designated work group and their effort to make workplaces safer. Although HSRs and Dep HSRs are the primary audience, managers, supervisors, health and safety committee members and anyone with an interest in health and safety may also benefit from attending the course. This WorkSafe approved HSR Refresher OHS Training course provides opportunity to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh knowledge of the Legal framework and OHS Risk Management Processes. The program is designed to enhance the skills of those elected to the role of Health and Safety Representative (HSR), or Deputy HSR. This is not a competency-based course - but is representational-based training. There is intentionally no assessment so as to encourage representation. It is WorkSafe approved and intended to fulfil the representational training needs of workplace HSRs. HSRs are entitled to attend this training and employers are obligated to facilitate their attendance under section 67 of the OHS Act 2004 (Vic).* *Worksafe Victoria legal requirements. All elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs are entitled to undertake a WorkSafe Victoria approved HSR Refresher OHS Training course every 12 months and choose which course they attend in consultation with their employer. (Section 67 of the OHS Act 2004). An employer must allow a HSR or Deputy HSR to attend an approved training course on paid time and pay the costs of the course and any other associated costs. (Section 67 of the OHS Act 2004). The learning objectives of the course are to enable: -Interpreting the occupational health and safety legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR -Identifying key parties and their legislative obligations and duties -Establishing representation in the workplace -Participating in consultation and issue resolution -Representing designated work group members in any OHS risk management process undertaken by the appropriate duty holder/s -Issuing a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) and directing the cessation of work. Additional Program Information. This course can be delivered on-site or your choice of local venue for corporate groups. Delivery on-site allows workplaces with larger numbers of HSR's or wishing to include managers and supervisors in programs to do so at excellent value. Corporate courses also allow greater flexibility in scheduling dates and times for course days. Group sizes are limited to no more than 20. The limit of individual group size is a WorkSafe Victoria requirement. However we may provide the program to multiple groups within the one organisation and we encourage group sizes of 12 - 20 people for better value. Our charges are based on a flat fee for each group trained with travel expenses and materials, where applicable being additional. Catering for corporate courses is at the organisations discretion and cost. Venues used for courses must meet a minimum standard.
