Physiotherapy is a highly practical degree. Teaching and learning in the Master of Physiotherapy includes practical, tutorial, workshop and clinical simulation sessions that occur on campus, as well as clinical placements that occur in a range of organisations with our industry partners. As part of your studies, you will also need to conduct self-directed learning. Self-directed learning includes learning through online lectures and content, completing preparation activities prior to attending classes, and dedicating time to independent skill practice and revision.

Assessments in the Master of Physiotherapy are authentic to the knowledge, skills, attributes, and communication formats required for clinical practice, and seek to develop your critical thinking capabilities. Common types of assessment in the Master of Physiotherapy are assignments, case studies, quizzes/tests, groups assessments, practical examinations, viva (oral) examinations and clinical placement assessments. For practical examinations, students act as models/simulated clients for their peers. Some assessment tasks are 'hurdle tasks', which means they must be passed in order to pass a topic. Hurdle tasks have been set based on the need to demonstrate safe and effective practice in a given clinical area or skill, prior to attempting a clinical placement/topic. Please refer to assessment information within individual topics for details. Flinders University offers a range of learning supports services to help you develop your academic skills.

The practice of physiotherapy requires behavioural, cognitive, communication, sensory and physical capabilities, to ensure the safe, effective and efficient delivery of health care. On commencement of the Master of Physiotherapy, you will be required to give written consent to participation in practical skill teaching, including your responsibilities for monitoring your capabilities and informing topic coordinators of anything that may impair your ability to participate.

Please refer to the placement page for further information about the Master of Physiotherapy compulsory pre-placement requirements, and other core participation requirements.
