Our program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to follow known routines and procedures, taking responsibility for your own work under general supervision. You'll combine communication, customer service and technical skills, and use discretion and judgment to adapt and transfer your skills to different situations.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 35 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Before being accepted into the course students:

  • Undertake a Pre-training Review to document previous work experience and qualifications and assess suitability for the course.
  • Complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online test to ensure the required literacy & numeracy levels for the course are met.
  • Applicants require a Working With Children Check and Police Check prior to placement.
  • Provide evidence of receiving the following Immunisations prior to attending placement:
    • Hepatitis B
    • Measles/Mumps/Rubella
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox) Boostrix

Inherent requirements

Psychological stamina:

  • empathy and resilience required for working with vulnerable patients.
  • required to carry out collection of blood and other bodily fluids.

Technical requirements

Students will be required to have access to the following in order to complete this blended course:

  • Laptop/Computer with internet access.
  • Access to a digital camera or video camera for visual and audio assessment tasks.
