About this course

Take a farming career to the next level with our Certificate IV in Agriculture. This recognised qualification combines skills in agriculture and small business to help you become a Farm Supervisor or Team Leader.

Students will learn core skills in livestock care and production, including quality assurance, feeding plans, and pest monitoring. Students will also learn important business skills including small business finances, staff management, and risk management.

This qualification applies to individuals with existing agriculture industry experience and technical skills and knowledge gained through training or employment specifically in the agriculture industry.

This course is available as part of the Free TAFE scheme for eligible students.

GOTAFE preferred entry requirements

Before being accepted into the course applicants must:

  • Complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online test to ensure the required literacy and numeracy levels for the course are met.
  • Undertake a Pre-training Review by interview to ensure the course suits their needs and aspirations, and that they are likely to complete the course successfully.
  • Please apply through an Apprenticeship Network Provider with your employer to organise your traineeship contract prior to applying for this course.
  • It is highly recommended that students have a minimum of 2 years experience in the industry or are continuing on from Certificate III in Agriculture or Dairy Production, with aspirations to gain advancement/or employment in the agricultural industry as a Farm Supervisor.

Inherent requirements

  • Working in this industry may involve working outdoors and indoors, working with a variety of vehicles and agricultural machinery as well as animals and plants.
  • It requires a medium degree of fitness.

Technical requirements

In order to complete this course students will require:

  • Access to a laptop/computer with internet access.
  • Access to a digital camera or video camera for visual and audio assessment tasks.
  • Webcam for virtual classes (applicable to blended delivery students)
