Expand your IT knowledge with the Certificate IV in Information Technology. This course, with the networking specialisation, teaches students the network installation, configuration, and testing skills they'll need to succeed in the fast-paced environment of ICT Support.

Students will benefit from our industry partnerships with key IT vendors including CISCO Networking Academy and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our industry-expert instructors will guide students through the course in a practical environment using the latest industry vendor programs. With a skill set that spans Cloud computing, Cyber Security, ICT Support, Networking, and Programming, students will be in-demand graduates across multiple areas.

The course is delivered at GOTAFE Campuses using simulated work practices in GOTAFE computer Labs. The option to undertake the course online is only available to traineeship students who have access to ICT workplaces to complement their study with on-the-job learning.

GOTAFE entry requirements

Before being accepted into the course applicants:

  • Complete a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) online test to ensure the required literacy & numeracy levels for the course are met.
  • Undertake a Pre-training Review by interview to ensure the course suits their needs and aspirations, and that they are likely to complete the course successfully.
  • Completion of a Certificate III in Information Technology or prior experience in IT would be an advantage.
  • An interview with the Course Coordinator may also be required If a student does not have a Certificate III or prior experience in this field.

Trainees

Prospective Traineeship or Apprenticeship students are required to apply through an Apprenticeship Network Provider with their employer to organise their apprenticeship contract prior to applying for this course.

Technical requirements

In order to complete learning and assessment tasks outside of class for this course, students will require:

  • OS: Windows 10.
  • RAM: 8GB minimum prefer 16GB.
  • HDD: 256GB Minimum.
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD Athlon X4 740 (or equivalent CPU/processor capable of virtulization).
  • VIDEO CARD: GeForce GTX 660 (2048 MB) or Radeon R9 285 (2048 MB)
  • SOUND CARD: DirectX compatible.
  • Headset & webcam for virtual classes & audio/visual assessment tasks if required.
  • A portable storage device such as an external hard drive, and/or at least one 32 GB USB thumb drive (essential for storing virtual machines on).
  • 2 screens/monitors.

Students require access to PC equipment to undertake this course as course resources and programs provided are generally not compatible with Apple Mac systems, and trainers may not be able to provide adequate support. Any applicants wishing to use Apple Mac computers/systems must be referred to the education area for a discussion on the technical requirements and ability required to make this exception. Tablets/iPads are not appropriate devices for this course.
