About this course

This program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to undertake advanced study and supervised research work in paramedic pre-hospital care.

The research skills developed within the program will provide an attractive credential for students seeking employment in the public or private sectors. The program will also provide the necessary preparation for entry into a higher degree research program. The multidisciplinary context of the program, involving team-teaching of students and the sharing of coursework and seminar experiences across disciplines will be invaluable to students given the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to researchers and practitioners seeking to understand complex problems in health.

Entry requirements

The University's Bachelor Honours Degree (AQF Level 8) Policy will apply.

The criteria for admission are:

  • successful completion of the Griffith Bachelor of Paramedicine (1533) or an equivalent qualification from another university;
  • a GPA of at least 5.0 over the second and third year of the Bachelor degree.

The Program Director will take the following into consideration when assessing applications for admission:

  • the suitability of the proposed dissertation topic;
  • the resources available to support the candidature including availability of appropriate supervision;
  • the preparedness of the applicant to undertake the degree in terms of the elapsed time since the prospective candidate qualified for the award of a Bachelor degree and the academic preparation provided by the Bachelor degree for the candidate's proposed dissertation topic.

Career pathways

Graduates of the program will be able to plan and conduct research in pre-hospital care and related disciplines, and therefore will be well-placed for positions in the private, not for profit, and public sectors. In addition, graduates will be eligible to apply for admission to higher degree research programs, thereby preparing them for high level research careers.

Credit and recognition of prior learning may be granted in accordance with Section 5.4 of the following University policy:
