About this course

Help stop the spread of disease.

This specialist program prepares you for advanced practice in infection prevention and control by addressing local, national, and international trends in the communicable diseases and infection. It's the longest running tertiary infection prevention and control education program across Australasia. It combines technical health knowledge with a foundation in advanced research and a critical analysis on how leadership and management skills can be applied to create transformative change in healthcare.

You'll gain a foundation in the microbial basis of infection and the sciences of disease, including the mechanisms involved in the breakdown of homeostasis in the human body and their manifestation as a communicable disease. It also includes the epidemiology of classic and contemporary infectious diseases in national and international populations, including surveillance systems for control and prevention.

Industry and expert connections

Research plays a critical role in the design of evidence-based infection prevention and control measures in health care settings, and this program will provide you with the foundational skills you'll need to interpret research results and to design your own studies that abide by legal and ethical principles. You'll be capable of synthesising findings of research reports as they are applicable to professional practice.

Throughout this program you'll learn alongside health graduates and experienced health professionals in interactive learning environments including online seminars and forums. This is a great opportunity to learn from your peers and develop important professional connections. This collaborative learning approach is led by our experienced academics, who are recognized leaders in their fields.
