We're committed to the development of the next generation of scientists and engineers. Our postdoctoral fellowships enable PhD graduates in many science and engineering disciplines to have their first career experience in one of our world class laboratories, under the supervision of leading researchers working on projects of national or global significance.
We are currently recruiting postdoctoral fellows for a range of opportunities. In coming weeks and months we will be advertising even more postdoctoral positions in our Future Science Platforms and through our biannual recruitment campaigns in May and October.

Here's what you need to know
There are two main postdoctoral fellowship recruitment rounds each year, usually in May and October, and additional opportunities are advertised throughout the year.
In addition, opportunities through the Future Science Platforms may also be available. CSIRO’s Future Science Platforms focus on science and engineering that underpins innovation and which have the potential to help reinvent and create new industries for Australia. These platforms offer significant opportunities for Postdoctoral Fellows to contribute to research that will underpin CSIRO's and the nation’s future innovation.
Postdoctoral fellows can undertake research in any of our business units, or in the National Facilities and Collections we manage.
What our postdoctoral fellowship can offer you
Our postdoctoral fellowship program aims to develop the next generation of leaders of the innovation system. We provide research training via three-year, strategic research and development projects that have a clear focus. Fellowships are designed to equip postgraduates with the skills to embark on careers as independent scientists and engineers.
If this is your second postdoctoral fellowship or you wish to undertake a second fellowship with CSIRO, upon completion of the second fellowship, the total relevant work period since confirmation of the doctorate must not exceed six full-time equivalent years.
Learning and development is an important aspect of a CSIRO postdoctoral fellowship, and a training and development plan will be devised in consultation with you around the time of commencement. Plans generally encompass both on and off job training and are designed to develop the fellow's capabilities to those expected of an independent researcher. Opportunities will be provided for the fellow to apply those capabilities in their work, as they develop.
The learning and development plan will include defined opportunities for formal involvement in research planning, conference attendance review of scientific papers and fully funded training courses for skills development.
Requirements and eligibility
Fellowships are available to PhD graduates who have attained a PhD degree or who have submitted a doctoral thesis and are awaiting conferral. Applicants must have no more than three years of relevant postdoctoral experience at the time of appointment.
We will sponsor overseas applicants who are eligible for appointment to obtain an Australian work visa. Appointment is subject to immigration requirements and security assessments being met.
