Entry requirements

All applicants must meet the English and Mathematics prerequisites:
* Units 3 and 4 English Language with a study score of at least 25 or English as an Additional Language (EAL) with a study score of at least 30

* one of the VCE Mathematics group of studies: Units 1 and 2 General Mathematics or Mathematics Methods OR any Units 3 and 4 Mathematics (preferred).

Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)
Applicants who do not have the literacy and numeracy subject requirements listed above are required to complete the relevant STAT, Written English and/or Multiple Choice test.

Literacy: Applicants that do not have the literacy subject prerequisites are required to complete the STAT Written English test and achieve a median score of 150 to meet the course literacy entry requirement.

Numeracy: Applicants that do not have the numeracy subject prerequisites are required to complete the STAT Multiple Choice test and achieve a median score of 150 to meet the course numeracy entry requirement.

Interview
Applicants must meet the English and Mathematics requirement and/or achieve the STAT standard before applying for entry into the program.

All applicants are required to attend an interview, which includes a written component. Interviews are of approximately 30 minutes duration.

Holmesglen will contact applicants to arrange the interview. Interview details will be confirmed by mail or email. Interviews are generally conducted within three weeks of receiving your application,
As per the Victorian Selection Framework, our interview includes a written component and therefore applicants need to attend in person.

Applicants should bring the following documentation to the interview:
* Evidence of your literacy and numeracy skills (VCE subject requirements or STAT results),
* Year 12 results, other qualification certificates and academic transcripts.

It is important that all documents presented are original.

Working with Children Check
Applicants will be required to hold a valid Working With Children (WWC) prior to undertaking professional placements as part of this course. Check the WWC website for more information.

Applicants with Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)
- Pre-requisites - as listed above
- Minimum prerequisite ATAR of 70 (including selection adjustments)
- Units 3 and 4 English Language with a study score of at least 25 or English as an Additional Language (EAL) with a study score of at least 30.
- one of the VCE Mathematics group of studies: Units 1 and 2: General Mathematics OR Mathematical Methods OR any Unites 3 and 4 Mathematics (preferred).

For Applicants with:
- Higher Education Study
- Vocational and Education Training (VET) Study
- Work and Life Experience

- Prerequisites as for recent Secondary education or equivalent
- Satisfactory completion of a Certificate IV, Diploma or higher at a registered training organisation, with scored or graded results of a minimum Distinction average.
- Your entire academic record will be considered.

Applicants must demonstrate their preparedness, aptitude and ability to cope with formal tertiary study at this qualification level. They must also meet any additional entry requirements where these are set as course prerequisites.

Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Advanced standing and entry pathways:
Applicants with a CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care may be eligible to receive advanced standing of up to 42 credit points.

Other requirements of this course

Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE)
All pre-service teachers wishing to graduate with a teaching qualification will be required by the Federal Government to successfully complete the LANTITE in order to qualify for graduation. View further information about this test here.

The test has been introduced to assess those aspects of pre-service teachers' personal literacy and numeracy skills that can be measured through an online assessment tool.

Eligibility to progress to Year 4:
To be eligible to graduate with the Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching degree, pre-service teachers are required to meet the Federal Government requirement of successfully completing the LANTITE, prior to graduation. To meet this requirement, all BECT pre-service teachers are required to successfully complete the LANTITE by the end of Year 3 of the BECT course in order to be eligible to progress to Year 4 of the program.

What you will learn

Graduates will be qualified early childhood and primary school teachers. They are eligible to apply for Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration and able to seek employment as primary school teachers (Foundation to Year 6), and early childhood teachers within licensed early childhood settings, including Kindergartens (birth to 5 years), in Victoria.

Holmesglen's pre-service teachers learn through a combination of on-campus lectures and tutorials and well-supported practicum experiences. Pre-service teachers attend practicum experiences within every semester in a range of early childhood education settings, and in primary schools from foundation to Year 6.

This course is accredited by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (AECQA) and the VIT.
