Entry requirements

Holmesglen requires all learners entering this course to be employed by a provider in the Electrical Supply Industry, Powerline Industry sector, and registered as an Apprentice working with an ESI provider.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and above to enrol in the program to meet the minimum age requirements for training and working in the Electrotechnology field in Victoria, determined by the regulators Energy Safe Victoria (ESV).

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, apprentices will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining suitability of the course, verify the training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

What you will learn

The training program covers the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment, conductors, and cables, as well as customer service and the inspection of overhead poles/structures and electrical apparatus. It also includes the use of support plant and equipment to undertake the work and the requirements and procedures for working on live low voltage electrical apparatus.

Apprentices who successfully complete the program can continue working as Electrical Linesworkers in the distribution overhead powerline industry. Their duties include installing, maintaining, and inspecting poles, structures, and associated hardware used in the powerline industry, as well as electrical equipment, conductors, and cables.

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training.
