Certificate
The Certificate III in Fitness provides you with the skills and knowledge you need to perform the role of a fitness instructor who undertakes a range of activities and functions within the fitness industry. It provides a pathway for you to work as an instructor, providing exercise instruction for group and gym programs.
To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training review at an interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
The course specialises in gym instruction, so you will learn how to provide individually tailored client assessments, provide technique correction as needed, and develop and demonstrate programs. It also includes supervision of a facility or service, keeping equipment clean, tidy, and well maintained, and handling various customer enquiries.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to operate independently with some degree of autonomy in fitness, leisure, aquatic, and community centres where risks are managed through pre-existing risk assessment and hazard control processes. You will be eligible to apply for registration as an exercise instructor with Fitness Australia or Physical Activity Australia once you complete this course.
This program has compulsory activities/materials as part of the learning experience. The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to your enrolment.
You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
