Entry requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs

Learners should be able to meet the physical requirements of assessment which may include:

- Standing for long periods of time
- Lifting and carrying floristry materials
- Manual dexterity to arrange flowers

What you will learn

Holmesglen's qualified and experienced floristry teachers will assist you to achieve the skills you need to begin or advance your career in the retail or creative floristry industries.

Floristry at Holmesglen has a strong design focus. Along with floristry techniques and customer relations, you will learn a variety of creative skills including drawing, visual display and event design.

Student participation in floristry competitions is encouraged and you will be involved in creating Holmesglen's entry to the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

At the completion of the course you will be a qualified florist in accordance with the National Industry Competency Standards for floristry and be ready to work in a retail or floristry related business.

Credit for prior study or work

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training.
