Combining theory and practice, this aged care course will teach you how to provide physical, social and emotional support to older people. You will also learn how to work as part of a team with other professionals such as nurses and healthcare workers.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the course.
Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to:
provide a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check
provide a record of your immunisation history
provide evidence of your COVID-19 vaccination (new requirement mandated by the Australian Government)
provide evidence of your flu vaccination (mandated by the aged care sector).

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

What you will learn

The course includes COVID-safe infection control training, and all learning and support materials are available through our online learning management system.

As part of the course, you will complete four weeks of work placement with one of our industry partners to help you put your skills into practice.

Placement is split into two, two-week blocks and your attendance is required from 7am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. Holmesglen will find your placement for you and you will be supported by a Holmesglen trainer during your placement.

Credit for prior study or work

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
