Entry requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 18 years of age.

Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to:
- provide a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check
- provide a record of your immunisation history
- provide evidence of your COVID-19 vaccinations
- provide evidence of your flu vaccination

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

What you will learn

You will learn how to provide physical, social and emotional support to people with disability. You will also learn how to work as part of a team with other professionals such as nurses and healthcare workers. The course includes COVID-safe infection control training, and all learning and support materials are available through our online learning management system. You will complete four weeks of work placement with one of our industry partners to help you put your skills into practice.

With the significant success of the NDIS, there is high demand for qualified workers in all areas of the disability sector. Many of our students are offered work on completion of their placement.

Credit for prior study or work

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
