Certificate
The Certificate III in Printing provides comprehensive training for printing apprentices and covers all practical and theoretical aspects of the trade, such as publishing, newspapers, magazines and packaging.
As this is an apprenticeship, prior to enrolling or commencing training you will be required to have an Epsilon registration and signed
contract with an employer, as well as a signed training plan with Holmesglen.
You will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will help determine suitability for the course,
variations to the training plan and any learning support needs.
You will be taught by highly qualified teachers with extensive industry experience. This program is predominantly delivered on site at the employer's workplace.
You will also benefit from flexible delivery methods, which include off-site workshops, site visits, training and assessment, determined by the needs of the employer and your abilities as an apprentice.
The course comprises 21 competencies which will build skills and knowledge to equip you with real-world applicable workplace skills to work effectively in a digital environment.
Working with the Adobe suite of programs, you will be taken through the fundamentals of typography, page-layout, imposition, image manipulation, pre-flighting and working with complex images, working with various file types for print and on-line display, managing colour through high-end RIPs and managing digital prints.
You will be trained on-campus to use high-quality digital cameras to capture images, to use spectrophotometers for colour measurements and calibration, using rendering intents, colour profiling and creating and outputting to hot folders on digital devices.
You will be required to use a combination of skills to produce final products for both print and digital platforms and on various media types.
You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
