Entry requirements

You must be at least 18 when you complete your studies to enable placement. You will also be required to provide a Police check, Working with Children Check and proof of vaccination.

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training review at an interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

What you will learn

Our unique combination of nutrition theory, plus 30 hours of face-to-face simulated clinic which makes up part of the 120 hours' practical placement, will set you up for an exciting career in this field.

During your studies, you will gain a detailed understanding of nutritional needs, understand how the body works and metabolises food, and develop skills to evaluate meal plans and adjust them for individual requirements.

Learn about different cultures, how food needs may change when illness arises, or if a person is diagnosed with allergies or intolerances.

Apply your new knowledge and skills in our Wellness Centre and out in the health industry such as Aged Care facilities, where you will complete up to 120 hours assisting dietitians and nutritionists where possible, and working and liaising with chefs to meet the dietary needs of clients.

Practical placement is a key component for this qualification. It is a structured program designed to give all students of the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, a true 'hands on' experience prior to entering the industry. Practical placement is designed to bridge the gap between study and employment.

This comprehensive course also includes study of chronic disease to help you understand the whole person and their health needs. You will also learn how to screen clients for malnutrition and dietary assessment.

This program has compulsory activities/materials as part of the learning experience. The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to your enrolment.
