Certificate
The Certificate IV in Engineering - Fabrication and AutoCAD Pathway - is a post-trade course developed for existing engineering tradespeople or apprentices in an engineering trade choosing to study at a higher level during their apprenticeship.
To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.
While there is no qualification entry requirement, it is assumed the learner is either already a tradesperson with access to structured on- and off-the-job training.
It is recommended that applicants have completed Year 11 or equivalent, due to the literacy and numeracy requirements of engineering studies.
It is recommended that learners wanting to enrol in this qualification contact the Engineering department to discuss the entry requirements.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
The course will give you enhanced career opportunities in fields associated with fabrication, welding and 2D/3D AutoCAD design.
The program is designed to provide you with a greater trade base and develop post-trade level skills as an Engineering Tradesperson or a Special Class Engineering Tradesperson - Level II in the Fabrication trade.
The course structure provides a range of higher-level fabrication and welding tasks, and incorporates advanced welding in the main disciplines, as well as learning the fundamental skills of 2D/3D AutoCAD tools in engineering applications.
You will be equipped with the skills to pursue higher-level roles in the metals industry, post trade and associated areas.
On completion, you will be an advanced metal fabricator working in the design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, maintenance and service of equipment and machinery, including;
- the fabrication and assembly of structures
- the manufacture of sheet metal work, as well as the use of relevant machinery, equipment and joining techniques.
The qualification packaging has been developed on the assumption that competency will be developed through an integrated combination of on- and off-the-job learning strategies, such as those delivered through a formal apprenticeship. The qualification may also be achieved through formal skills recognition assessment processes.
You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
