Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment via Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) and a Pre Training Review interview.
These will assist with determining your suitability for the course and identify any learning support needs.
By focusing on three key skill areas networking, cyber security and help-desk support, you will build the skills and knowledge to kick start a career in IT.
Building a strong foundation in networking by learning to installing, configuring, and troubleshooting small to medium network environments (CCNA1) will prepare you to work in any IT environment.
Then you will learn to create and deploy virtual machines. Holmesglen is a CISCO Networking Academy and as part of this course you will be enrolled in the Cisco Academy course - Introduction to Networks (CCNA 1).
The networking knowledge learned in your first group of electives is complementary to the next group of electives which cover introductory skills in cyber security. Initially you will learn to identify and recognise threats, risks and vulnerabilities in cyber security and understand how to secure and protect a PC.
You will learn to writing basic scripts in the python programming language which will prepare you for penetrating (PEN) testing. In PEN testing you will identify, assess and report security vulnerabilities. Additionally, you will learn to conduct network testing and use network monitoring tools.
The ICT support stream introduces critical IT Essential skills and knowledge to install software, configure operating systems, troubleshoot PCs and basic networking issues, and maintain PC equipment to ensure efficient operation.
You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
