About this course

Our Diploma of Community Services (Case Management) provides you with the knowledge and skills required to work as a professional community services worker, across a variety of settings within the social and community services industry. These may include areas such as, mental health, homelessness, family and domestic violence, child protection, employment support, migrant services, and a provide a pathway to the child protection industry.

Entry requirements

Applicants to this course must be aged 18 or over and are required to have:
- a qualification at certificate IV level or above
or
- at least two years' relevant work experience in community services deemed equivalent.

Applicants will also need to be able to:
- commit to 400 hours of mandatory fieldwork placement in the second year of their course.
- commute up to 80 minutes each way to their placement location.

Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to:
- provide a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check
- provide a Working with Children Check.

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview.

These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

What you will learn

While completing this course, our dedicated placement officers will find you two 200-hour practical placements (400 hours in total) within community services agencies.

Placement will not only ensure you are competent and work ready, but will also provide you with experience working as a community services worker, and a source of valuable networks for employment.

Students will also participate in a community development project that will give you the skills to develop, implement and review projects within the community.

This interactive and supportive course ensures that you develop the skills, knowledge and confidence you require to support your growth as a professional in the community services sector.

The courses is delivered with a combination face-to-face classes that are supported by our e-learning platform.

The course training involves simulation activities, where you will practice intake, assessment and counselling skills with real-life scenarios.

The Diploma of Community Services (Case Management) is accredited by the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA), and will allow you membership with this industry recognised professional body. ACWA membership is a requirement for pursing a career with DHHS Child protection .

Credit for prior study or work

You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training.
