Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements. Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will help establish a student's suitability to the course and identify any learning support needs.

Applicants must have a Transition from School Form signed by their last school principal, and permission from the Department of Education (from the Regional Director) permitting them to leave school. This is a requirement under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006.

What you will learn

This VCAL Foundation program is aimed at students who recognise that the school environment is not suited to them. Students will often have completed Year 9 the year before, but are now looking for an opportunity to set themselves up for life after school.

Our Vocational College VCAL Foundation program has clear pathways into VCAL Intermediate, VCAL Senior (equivalent to Year 12) and further TAFE courses and apprenticeships.

The VCAL Foundation program encourages diversity and ensures everyone has equal rights and a tailored learning approach to suit the individual. Students have the opportunity to gain a sense of belonging within a new, supportive and rewarding environment.

Strong literacy, numeracy and employability skills components are the focus, allowing students to experience personal development and growth. Students engage in a variety of projects and activities within the Holmesglen setting and the surrounding community.

Career pathways

  • Students will learn many transferable skills during the program. They will build their confidence and be prepared for what is expected in the real world (including working life). This program is designed to prepare students for further education, for example VCAL Intermediate and VCAL Senior.

Credit for prior study or work
