The Certificate II in Horticulture (AHC20416) is an ideal course for new participants wanting to enter in the horticulture field. The course aims to address underpinning knowledge and skills that will assist participants in developing competency at introductory level. The course units have been selected to cover a range of horticulture topics including plant recognition, plant pest and weed treatments, basic soil properties, propagation, planting and pruning.

At Kangan Institute we provide students with the opportunity to experience a simulated work place in our own horticulture learning facility. Our teachers have a broad range of industry skills and knowledge that they bring to the classroom environment ensuring that students have relevant and current understanding of industry practices.

Free TAFE and JobTrainer

You may be entitled to free tuition fees for this course if you meet the eligibility criteria for the State Government's FREE TAFE for Priority Courses initiative. If you're aged 17-24 or looking for work, you may be eligible for 80% discount on the course tuition fee through JobTrainer. It's important to know you may incur fees that you will need to cover yourself, such as student service fees or materials fees. Skills First (eligible) students are usually entitled to one Free TAFE fee waiver, however under JobTrainer you may be eligible for a second Free TAFE course. Our course delivery features a combination of on-campus and remote (online) learning. This flexibility allows our students to continue to study in a safe, guided and supported manner.

If you are enrolling in this course as part of a Traineeship, you must have employment in the relevant industry before commencing the course.

Entry requirements

There are no prerequisites for this course. However, it is recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course.

As all of our course delivery features a combination of on-campus and remote (online) learning. We use a online Learning Platform to communicate to students, distribute learning materials and assessment. Your assessments will be required to be submitted using our online platform, hence we highly recommend that all students undertaking the course have a suitable internet connection, have access to a portable device ie laptop to be able to access classes, class and learning materials and upload assessments
