About this course

Learn the Tools of the Trade

Are you the person people turn to when they are in need? Are you a good communicator, dependable, and well-organised? Do you care about others? If so, a career as an Allied Health Assistant (AHA) might be for you!

What is an Allied Health Assistant?

An AHA works with various allied health professionals.

AHAs perform in a hands-on role, assisting Allied Health professionals with the health care plans of their clients.

Typically, a treatment plan is set out by the Allied Health professional to support the diagnosis of the client/patient. Then the primary role of the AHA is to:

  • follow up the treatment plan with the client/patient to assist with their recovery and
  • support the patient/client with their health care to increase mobility, independence and ability to care for themselves.

In this collaborative role, the AHA will provide a high standard of patient therapy and support to improve the client's quality of life and well-being. AHAs can also help reduce the risk of complications in chronic conditions or following illness or injury.

What is a typical day like for an Allied Health Assistant?

For a start, there is usually no typical day. You might be preparing for a session with a patient, providing clinical and exercise support, or carrying out work on patient files. It depends on the type of facility you work in, the requirements of the allied health professional you support, and the client's needs.
