Designed as a pathway program, graduates gain the knowledge and skills to pursue further studies in teaching or working in education. While the course is not accredited for registration as a teacher, applicants can, subject to meeting entry requirements,  transfer into one of the undergraduate teacher education courses at La Trobe University after successfully completing their first year of study. Skills in fundamental critical thinking, knowledge in contemporary education theory and key concepts of student development will be developed. The degree prepares graduates to work as a teacher aide or pursue a career in areas like training and professional development, local council education and youth assistance. You can also choose to complete this degree and progress to a post graduate course such as the Master of Education or Master of TESOL, or pursue a Graduate Entry Teaching program such as the Master of Teaching (Primary) or Master of Teaching (Secondary). This course is a three-year full-time program, or part-time equivalent, consisting of 360 credit points of core and elective subjects. Students will have the opportunities to develop and apply their critical appreciation of contemporary contexts for education, and utilise the range of partnerships in order to embed themselves in their chosen field of education. The Bachelor of Educational Studies may also be a pathway program through which students can gain knowledge and skills to pursue further studies in teaching or working in education.
