About this course

The Bachelor of Electronic Engineering (Honours) is a four-year course offering specialisations in biomedical, communication and electronic systems. The course has a strong emphasis on project work as it introduces students to electronics-related engineering sciences, computing, mathematics and management practices. Students develop an appreciation of the role of engineers in the community and an awareness of the social and environmental effects of their decisions. Students may elect to specialise in biomedical, communication or electronic systems. Practical work forms an important part of the course and is compulsory. The third and fourth years of the course comprise a common core, with specialty subjects and the final year engineering project taken according to the specialist stream chosen. Students are required to complete at least 12 weeks certified practical experience under the guidance of an experienced engineer before being deemed to have completed the course and therefore qualify to graduate. This is preferably undertaken during the annual vacation following the third year of the course but may be done at the conclusion of the final year. International students must undertake their experience during the annual vacation following the third year. It may be done at the conclusion of final year but must be completed before the students visa expiry date. Visa expiry dates may not be extended for the sole purpose of completing practical experience. International applicants are advised to ensure they have the correct visa to undertake this work placement. The three Essentials - Global Citizenship, Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Sustainability Thinking are specialist areas designed to give you an edge with employers.   Essentials will enable you to adapt your knowledge and skills to new contexts in a rapidly changing world.   Subjects addressing the Essentials are part of all undergraduate La Trobe degrees and can be identified in the subject search by distinct icons.
