Students may undertake their Honours year in one of the following disciplines:The Human physiology and anatomy major offers students specialised training in practical research. As well as providing the setting for a disciplined approach to research in the laboratory, the Department will provide training in methods of oral and written communication of research results at an advanced level. The program normally involves supervised research projects, although coursework may be applicable in some circumstances.   The assessment for the Honours year is two 15-minute seminars, a literature survey, an analysis of a scientific paper, a thesis of 10,000 to 12,000-words and the supervisor’s assessment. To qualify for Honours, an applicant must have achieved the requirements for the pass degree with a B Average or higher, but applicants will also be considered on a case-by-case basis in special circumstances with demonstrated academic excellence in subject areas relevant to one of the contributing schools: Department of Public Health in the School of Psychology and Public Health, Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Microbiology, in the School of Life Science (Melbourne Campus) or La Trobe Rural Health School (Bendigo Campus). All applicants who meet the entry requirements will receive a provisional letter of offer at Semester 1 and confirmation pending their results at the end of their final year. The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) degree requires the completion of 120 credit points over one year of full-time study. or an equivalent period of part-time study.
