Obesity and related complications (cardiovascular disease, diabetes) are on the rise in Hong Kong as the population adopts a westernised lifestyle, leading to a large financial burden on primary health care systems in Hong Kong. There is now a rapidly increasing demand for trained nutrition health professionals. As there is no current registration of dietitians in Hong Kong, there is an abundance of untrained personnel practising as nutritionists, who give inappropriate advice, adversely affecting patient outcomes. This articulation to the Bachelor of Human Nutrition, for those students who have successfully completed a Higher Diploma in Human Nutrition, or equivalent, will develop the training nutritionist workforce in Hong Kong. The Bachelor of Human Nutrition (Hong Kong) articulation program aims to prepare graduates with the knowledge, skills and capabilities for careers in nutrition and public health, health promotion, government policy areas, the food industry, and other areas of nutrition and biosciences. The program objectives are to:Two subjects will be delivered over two-week intensive blocks. Participation and attendance (face-to-face contact), over this period, may be up to 32 hours per week. Students will have some preparation to complete before the two-week intensive block, and assessment will be due before preparation for the next two-week block commences.   Each subject requires 60–70 hours of commitment and includes lectures, tutorials, practicals, preparation and self-study (students undertake independent study). An additional 70-80 hours may be required for the preparation and completion of assessment tasks for each subject.
