About this course

In first year, you'll learn the fundamentals of nursing and midwifery, with subjects including human biosciences and public health, as well as specific midwifery and nursing subjects. In the following years, you'll study

  • Indigenous and intercultural health
  • midwifery care across antenatal
  • intrapartum and postnatal periods
  • acute nursing and mental health
  • and illness.

You'll also practice nursing and midwifery in emergency and time-critical settings.

This four-year double degree gives you over 1,800 hours of placements in a clinical setting. These rotations give you first-hand experience of what it's really like to work as a midwife and nurse, so you'll graduate career ready.

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery, students must complete a total of 480 credit points across 4 years.

Year 1 requires the completion of 135 credit points including:

Year 2 requires the completion of 120 credit points including:

  • 120 credit points from chosen Core

Year 3 requires the completion of 120 credit points including:

  • 120 credit points from chosen Core

Year 4 requires the completion of 105 credit points including:

  • 45 credit points from chosen Capstone

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).Graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery may be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a nurse and midwife. Professional registration may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree. Please contact the relevant professional body for details.
