About this course

PPE Degrees were first established at Oxford University in the 1920s and they have since become established in leading universities across the world. The rationale for PPE degrees derives from the recognition that the major issues in contemporary society nearly always contain very strong political, philosophical and economic dimensions. PPE degrees have always been a compelling option for those students who seek to become tomorrow’s decision makers and opinion shapers. La Trobe’s PPE Degree provides you with a broad and sophisticated knowledge base to analyse policy debates and social challenges. Content includes specialist subjects that integrate politics, philosophy and economics. There is also a focus on developing your capacity to apply a PPE perspective in analysing public policy challenges. PPE students are encouraged to join the student-led PPE Society which regularly holds meetings and high-profile public events. You will also complete a work integrated learning subject in your third year. There is considerable flexibility to tailor the degree to suit your interests. Along with core and elective subjects from economics, philosophy and politics you also have the option to undertake electives in other disciplines. Accelerated entry is available to strong applicants. Graduates develop advanced skills in rigorous analysis and communication and these skills are readily transferable between employment settings. Upon graduation, you might typically be employed in public policy settings, non-government organisations and state or federal government agencies and departments.
