About this course

Business skills can take you to just about any industry or sector. Discover what opportunities your future could hold.

La Trobe's Diploma in Business is your supported pathway into an entrepreneurial- led business degree and a versatile career in the modern-day digital and disruptive business landscape.

Build your knowledge and skills with core subjects in management and organisational structure, economic principles and application, sustainability and data analytic tools and technologies related to business. So you can thrive in the workplace, we also equip you with the ability to analyse and apply business information and communicate and work effectively with others to solve business challenges. You can then use elective subjects to broaden your business exposure or undertake subjects forming part of a planned discipline major. You'll learn alongside Bachelor degree students in the same subjects - all while you get a taste for the career you want and plan your transition to further university study.

After successfully completing the Diploma, you'll earn up to one year's worth of course credit (also called advanced standing) for the subjects you study.

That means you could transfer directly into the second year of a range of eligible business degrees - with majors in everything from marketing to sport management, accounting or finance to tourism and hospitality.

We're at your side every step of the way. Receive personalised advice from a dedicated Student Adviser and connect with discipline-based peer mentors. We'll help you enrol, assist with choosing your subjects and navigating university systems and requirements. You can also access the university-wide Career Ready hub for advice and assistance on your resume, interview skills and career planning.

You'll learn:

  • Management and business structure
    • Understand how to communicate, collaborate and connect with your business peers and stakeholders.
  • Economics
    • Discover how business and society connect and understand and apply economic concepts and principles to incorporate external influences and address business problems.
  • Sustainability
    • Learn about environmental, corporate and governance responsibility and develop sustainable solutions that prioritise individual and societal wellbeing.
  • Digital literacy
    • Learn to use a wide range of digital and data processing tools to analyse business activity and become a more efficient and effective business professional.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 5 - Diploma.
