Our Bachelor of Agriculture and Technology (Agronomy Major) focuses on innovative solutions to current and future industry issues, preparing you for a forward-focused, exciting and increasingly in-demand career path in commercial plant production.
This course offers a unique vocational degree that has been designed with industry input to meet industry needs. You will learn current knowledge and industry standard skills from our team of skilled and dedicated experts. You will study in facilities at an accessible rural setting, including our commercial-standard property at Yan Yean - a commercial 600 hectare mixed farming operation, demonstrating mixed pasture and broadacre cropping, as well as cattle, sheep and pasture production facilities.
An agronomist specialises in commercial plant production, along with understanding soil science, animal production, cultivation techniques, and technology to improve productivity and sustainability of farms and agricultural industries. This qualification provides an essential base for a career as an agronomist, with unique experience that opens doors direct to industry.

If you have already studied higher education: Y ou may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if your highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a higher education course, such as a university degree.
If you have studied a VET course: You may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if your highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a vocational education and training (VET) course.
If you have recent secondary education: You may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if you are a recent secondary education student whose admission is primarily based on the completion of Year 12 within the past two years.
If you have work and life experience: You may meet the admissions criteria for higher education at Melbourne Polytechnic if you have work and life experience and left secondary education more than two years ago and have not undertaken vocational education training (VET) or higher education study since then.
