Cambridge Preliminary English Test (PET)
The PET preparation course is suitable for students of a pre-intermediate level, who are able to cope with everyday written and spoken communication. PET students should be able to read a simple book and write a basic letter.
PET is a good preparation for higher level exams such as FCE.
PET is approximately equal to IELTS 3.5 - 4.0, TOEFL 300 or TOEIC 200-250.
Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE)
First Certificate preparation at Milner College is offered as a full time course. FCE is a suitable course for students whose English level is upper-intermediate, and who can deal confidently with a range of written and spoken communications. At the end of the course, FCE students should have a very good grasp of vocabulary and be able to construct a convincing argument. They should also be aware of varying degrees of formality and politeness as expressed in language.
FCE is a useful qualification as it is recognised by some employers and universities as proof of a sound intermediate level. Those working in industries which require use of English, such as business or tourism, will benefit greatly from our FCE course.
The FCE is approximately equal to IELTS 5.5 - 6.0, TOEFL 475-500 and TOEIC 625-660
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)
CAE is a full time course , suitable for students who are able to communicate with confidence in English, both socially and professionally. CAE requires a high level of competence in all areas of the language and indicates an ability to easily deal with most aspects of everyday life.
CAE learners should be able to engage in business, study and higher education, in English, at a proficient level. The Advanced Certificate is a valuable qualification for students who want to work or study abroad as it is recognised by many universities and employers.
The CAE course focuses on real world tasks and the examination tests the student's ability to use the English language in a variety of practical situations. Exam candidates should be able to participate in detailed discussions, express opinions clearly and produce business letters and reports. They should also be aware of the different styles of English appropriate to different situations.
CAE is approximately equal to IELTS 6.5 - 7.0, TOEFL 550+, and TOEIC 700+.
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)
The Certificate of Proficiency is the highest Cambridge English examination level available to speakers of other languages. This course is for students who have achieved an extremely high level of language skills and are able to function effectively in any English-speaking context.
Most Universities and employers recognise the Cambridge Proficiency Certificate as a qualification which represents significant personal and educational achievement. It is invaluable for those who wish to work or study abroad.
The CPE examination requires students to demonstrate that they have progressed beyond a good knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, to actually using the language with style and sophistication.
CPE is approximately equal to IELTS 7.5+, TOEFL 575 - 600, and TOEIC 800+.
