Get a head start on the next revolution in technology

Blockchain applications are not just limited to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, but also extended to different interdisciplinary sectors. This microcredential is for students to develop basic knowledge of blockchain technology and how they can be used in real-world scenarios such as payment systems or supply-chain management.

Through Applications of Blockchain you will develop an understanding of different blockchain systems, with a focus on the state-of-the-art knowledge for blockchain technologies including consensus, privacy-preserving protocols and smart contracts which are being rapidly adopted across a range of different industries.

You'll receive one unit (six credit points) of academic credit which you can use towards a relevant Monash postgraduate award course in IT. To join a postgraduate course you must also meet Monash University's entry criteria.

By the end of the microcredential, you'll be able to:

  • Summarise the reasoning for a blockchain system in a unique context
  • Evaluate and apply consensus algorithms
  • Model the design of a blockchain system as a business case report
  • Evaluate architecture, components and protocols of a blockchain system
  • Assess cryptocurrencies, digital currencies and smart contracts
  • Investigate system vulnerability to attack and evaluating countermeasures
  • Investigate existing threats and attacks to blockchain and ways to provide resilience
  • Assess the scalability and interoperability of a blockchain system
  • Assess and evaluate blockchain privacy and privacy enhancing technologies
  • Investigate network level considerations (attacks/performance)
